प्रवाहिकापरिस्राववेदनापरिकर्तने । पीतौषधस्य वेगानां निग्रहान्मारुतादयः ॥ १६ ॥

This formulation is highly effective for curing dysentery (pravāhikā), slimy discharge from the rectum (paristrāva), localized pain (vedanā), and cutting/shearing pain in the anal region (parikartikā). If a patient, after consuming the medicine, forcefully suppresses the arising urges (of vomiting or purgation), Vata and the other doshas become highly aggravated.

These aggravated doshas travel to the heart and produce a severe, terrifying cardiac oppression (hṛdgraha), accompanied by hiccup (hidhmā), pain in the flanks (pārśva-rujā), cough (kāsa), a state of helplessness/depression (dainya), excessive salivation (lālā), and erratic rolling or distortion of the eyes (akṣi-vibhrama).

The patient bites his own tongue, loses consciousness (niḥsañjña), and grinds his teeth (dantān kaṭakaṭāyayan). Encountering this, the physician should not panic or become confused, but should immediately induce therapeutic vomiting (vamaṇa).

If the fainting/unconsciousness is dominated by Pitta, emetics of sweet (madhura) taste should be used; if it is dominated by Kapha, emetics of pungent (kaṭu) taste should be administered. Following this, the remaining residual doshas should be digested and neutralized using carminative/digestive (pācanīya) formulations.

Thereafter, the patient's digestive fire (kāyāgni) and bodily strength (bala) should be gradually built up and enhanced in a systematic, step-by-step manner. If a patient suffers from distressing pain in the heart (hṛdaya-pīḍā) due to excessive vomiting caused by aggravated Vata,
