केवलानिलजं कासं स्नेहैरादावुपाचरेत् । वातघ्नसिद्धैः स्निग्धैश्च पेयायूषरसादिभिः ॥ १ ॥
Cough arising from Vata alone, should be treated first with fats (medicated oil or ghee) prepared from herbs which are anti-vata and unctuous, with the drinking of thin gruel, soup and meat soup etc;

लेहैर्धूमैस्तथाभ्यङ्गस्वेदसेकावगाहनैः । बस्तिभिर्बद्धविड्वातं सपित्तं तूर्ध्वभक्तिकैः ॥ २ ॥
with confections, inhalations, oil massage, sudation, pouring of warm decoction over the body, immersing the body in medicated liquids and enema therapy when there is obstruction to feaces and flatus, when vata is associated with Pitta (it should be treated) by administration of Medicated ghee and milk after the ingestion of food,
