बन्ध वध भयाद् वा यः सामन्तो न्याय वृत्तिर् धार्मिकः सत्य वाग् अविसंवादकः प्रतिग्रहीता मानयिता च अभिपन्नानां तम् आश्रयेत ॥
Or if he apprehends imprisonment or death, he may seek refuge under a neighbouring king who is known to be righteous, charitable, truthful, and not given to cunning, but also welcomes and respects guests of good character.
english translation
bandha vadha bhayAd vA yaH sAmanto nyAya vRttir dhArmikaH satya vAg avisaMvAdakaH pratigrahItA mAnayitA ca abhipannAnAM tam Azrayeta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्रस्थः कोश दण्ड सम्पन्नः प्रवीर पुरुष कन्या सम्बन्धम् अटवी सम्बन्धं कृत्य पक्ष उपग्रहं च कुर्यात् ॥
Residing therein he may provide himself with men and money, contract marriage-connection with influential personages, and not only make alliance with wild tribes, but win over the parties (in his father's state).
english translation
tatrasthaH koza daNDa sampannaH pravIra puruSa kanyA sambandham aTavI sambandhaM kRtya pakSa upagrahaM ca kuryAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएक चरः सुवर्ण पाक मणि राग हेम रूप्य पण्य आकर कर्म अन्तान् आजीवेत् ॥
Or moving alone, he may earn his livelihood by working in gold mines or ruby mines or by manufacturing gold and silver ornaments or any other commercial commodities.

eka caraH suvarNa pAka maNi rAga hema rUpya paNya Akara karma antAn AjIvet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपाषण्ड संघ द्रव्यम् अश्रोत्रिय उपभोग्यं वा देव द्रव्यम् आढ्य विधवा द्रव्यं वा गूढम् अनुप्रविश्य सार्थ यान पात्राणि च मदन रस योगेन अतिसंधाय अपहरेत् ॥
Having acquired close intimacy with heretics (páshanda), rich widows, or merchants carrying on ocean traffic he may, by making use of poison (madanarasa), rob them of their wealth as well as the wealth of gods unless the latter is enjoyable by Bráhmans learned in the Vedas.
english translation
pASaNDa saMgha dravyam azrotriya upabhogyaM vA deva dravyam ADhya vidhavA dravyaM vA gUDham anupravizya sArtha yAna pAtrANi ca madana rasa yogena atisaMdhAya apaharet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपारग्रामिकं वा योगम् आतिष्ठेत् ॥
Or he may adopt such measures as are employed to capture the villages of a foreign king.
