वाणिजको वृत्ति क्षीणः प्रज्ञा शौच युक्तो वैदेहक व्यञ्जनः ॥
A trader, fallen from his profession, but possessed of foresight and pure character, is a merchant spy.
english translation
vANijako vRtti kSINaH prajJA zauca yukto vaidehaka vyaJjanaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस वणिक् कर्म प्रदिष्टायां भूमौ इति समानं पूर्वेण ॥
This spy shall carry on the manufacture of merchandise on lands allotted to him for the purpose, etc.,--as before.
english translation
sa vaNik karma pradiSTAyAM bhUmau iti samAnaM pUrveNa ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमुण्डो जटिलो वा वृत्ति कामस् तापस व्यञ्जनः ॥
A man with shaved head (munda) or braided hair (jatila) and desirous to earn livelihood is a spy under the guise of an ascetic practising austerities.

muNDo jaTilo vA vRtti kAmas tApasa vyaJjanaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस नगर अभ्याशे प्रभूत मुण्ड जटिल अन्तेवासी शाकं यव मुष्टिं वा मास द्विमास अन्तरं प्रकाशम् अश्नीयात्, गूढम् इष्टम् आहारम् ॥
Such a spy surrounded by a host of disciples with shaved head or braided hair may take his abode in the suburbs of a city, and pretend as a person barely living on a handful of vegetables or meadow grass (yavasamushti) taken once in the interval of a month or two, but he may take in secret his favourite food-stuffs (gúdhamishtamáháram).

sa nagara abhyAze prabhUta muNDa jaTila antevAsI zAkaM yava muSTiM vA mAsa dvimAsa antaraM prakAzam aznIyAt, gUDham iSTam AhAram ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवैदेहक अन्तेवासिनश् च एनं समिद्ध योगैर् अर्चयेयुः ॥
Merchant spies pretending to be his disciples may worship him as one possessed of preternatural powers.
