द्रव्य वनयोर् अपि यो महत् सारवद् द्रव्य अटवीकं विषय अन्ते नदी मातृकं द्रव्य वनं छेदयति सो अतिसंधत्ते ॥
Of timber forests, whoever plants a forest which produces valuable articles, which expands into wild tracts, and which possesses a river on its border overreaches the other,
english translation
dravya vanayor api yo mahat sAravad dravya aTavIkaM viSaya ante nadI mAtRkaM dravya vanaM chedayati so atisaMdhatte ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनदी मातृकं हि स्व् आजीवम् अपाश्रयश् च आपदि भवति ॥
for a forest containing a river is self-dependent and can afford shelter in calamities.
english translation
nadI mAtRkaM hi sv AjIvam apAzrayaz ca Apadi bhavati ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहस्ति वनयोर् अपि यो बहु शूर मृगं दुर्बल प्रतिवेशं अनन्त अवक्लेशि विषय अन्ते हस्ति वनं बध्नाति सो अतिसंधत्ते ॥
Of game-forests, whoever plants a forest full of cruel beasts, close to an enemy's forest containing wild animals, causing therefore much harm to the enemy, and extending into an elephant-forest at the country's border, overreaches the other.

hasti vanayor api yo bahu zUra mRgaM durbala prativezaM ananta avaklezi viSaya ante hasti vanaM badhnAti so atisaMdhatte ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र अपि "बहु कुण्ठ अल्प शूरयोः अल्प शूरं श्रेयः, शूरेषु हि युद्धम्, अल्पाः शूरा बहून् अशूरान् भञ्जन्ति, ते भग्नाः स्व सैन्य अवघातिनो भवन्ति" इत्य् आचार्याः ॥
My teacher says that of the two countries, one with a large number of effete persons, and another with a small number of brave persons, the latter is better inasmuch as, a few brave persons can destroy a large mass of effete persons whose slaughter brings about the destruction of the entire army of their master.
english translation
tatra api "bahu kuNTha alpa zUrayoH alpa zUraM zreyaH, zUreSu hi yuddham, alpAH zUrA bahUn azUrAn bhaJjanti, te bhagnAH sva sainya avaghAtino bhavanti" ity AcAryAH ॥
