जीवद् विभागे पिता न एकं विशेषयेत् ॥
A father, distributing his property while he is alive, shall make no distinction in dividing it among his sons.
english translation
jIvad vibhAge pitA na ekaM vizeSayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन च एकम् अकारणान् निर्विभजेत ॥
Nor shall a father deprive without sufficient reason any of the sons of his share.

na ca ekam akAraNAn nirvibhajeta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपितुर् असत्य् अर्थे ज्येष्ठाः कनिष्ठान् अनुगृह्णीयुः, अन्यत्र मिथ्या वृत्तेभ्यः ॥
Father being dead, the elder sons shall show favour to the younger ones, if the latter are not of bad character.
english translation
pitur asaty arthe jyeSThAH kaniSThAn anugRhNIyuH, anyatra mithyA vRttebhyaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्राप्त व्यवहाराणां विभागः ॥
(Time of dividing inheritance.) Division of inheritance shall be made when all the inheritors have attained their majority. If it is made before, the minors shall have their shares, free of all debts.

prApta vyavahArANAM vibhAgaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअप्राप्त व्यवहाराणां देय विशुद्धं मातृ बन्धुषु ग्राम वृद्धेषु वा स्थापयेयुः आ व्यवहार प्रापणात्, प्रोषितस्य वा ॥
These shares of the minors shall be placed in the safe custody of the relatives of their mothers, or of aged gentlemen of the village, till they attain their majority. The same rule shall hold good in the case of those who have gone abroad.

aprApta vyavahArANAM deya vizuddhaM mAtR bandhuSu grAma vRddheSu vA sthApayeyuH A vyavahAra prApaNAt, proSitasya vA ॥
