तद् अभावे पिता धरमाणः ॥
if there are neither sons nor such daughters, the dead man's father, if living, shall have it;
english translation
tad abhAve pitA dharamANaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपित्र् अभावे भ्रातरो भ्रातृ पुत्राश् च ॥
if he, too, is not alive, the dead man's brothers and the sons of his brothers shall have it;

pitr abhAve bhrAtaro bhrAtR putrAz ca ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअपितृका बहवो अपि च भ्रातरो भ्रातृ पुत्राश् च पितुर् एकम् अंशं हरेयुः ॥
if there are many fatherless brothers, all of them shall divide it; and each of the many sons of such brothers shall have one share due to his father (piturekamamsam);
english translation
apitRkA bahavo api ca bhrAtaro bhrAtR putrAz ca pitur ekam aMzaM hareyuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसोदर्याणाम् अनेक पितृकाणां पितृतो दाय विभागः ॥
if the brothers (sodarya) are the sons of many fathers, they shall divide it calculating from their fathers.
english translation
sodaryANAm aneka pitRkANAM pitRto dAya vibhAgaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपितृ भ्रातृ पुत्राणां पूर्वे विद्यमाने न अपरम् अवलम्बन्ते, ज्येष्ठे च कनिष्ठम् अर्थ ग्राहिणम् ॥
Among a dead man's father, brother, and brother's sons, the succeeding ones shall depend on the preceding ones if living (for their shares); likewise the youngest or the eldest claiming his own share.
english translation
pitR bhrAtR putrANAM pUrve vidyamAne na aparam avalambante, jyeSThe ca kaniSTham artha grAhiNam ॥
