कुतो हि साध्वी जनस्यच् छलम् ॥
From whom then could a virtuous woman experience deceit?

सुखम् एतद् अवबोद्धुम्, इति कौटिल्यः ॥
"This is easy to understand," says Kauṭilya.

प्रेत व्याधि व्यसन गर्भ निमित्तम् अप्रतिषिद्धम् एव ज्ञाति कुल गमनम् ॥
It is no offence for women to go to the houses of kinsmen under the circumstances of death, disease, calamities, and confinement of women.

तन् निमित्तं वारयतो द्वादश पणो दण्डः ॥
Whoever prevents her going under such circumstances, shall be fined 12 panas.

तत्र अपि गूहमाना स्त्री धनं जीयेत, ज्ञातयो वा छादयन्तः शुल्क शेषम् ॥ इति निष्पतनम् ।
If a woman conceals herself under such circumstances, she shall forfeit her endowment. If her kinsmen conceal her (with a view to exempt her from giving her aid under such circumstances), they shall lose the balance of sulka, money due to them from her husband for giving her in marriage. Thus vagrancy is dealt with.
