साक्षिणश् चेद् अभियोगाद् ऊनं ब्रूयुर् अतिरिक्तस्य अभियोक्ता बन्धं दद्यात् ॥
If witnesses give testimony for a less amount, the plaintiff shall pay a fine proportional to the increased amount.
english translation
अतिरिक्तं वा ब्रूयुस् तद् अतिरिक्तं राजा हरेत् ॥
if they attest to a greater amount, the excess shall go to the king.

बालिश्याद् अभियोक्तुर् वा दुह्श्रुतं दुर्लिखितं प्रेत अभिनिवेशं वा समीक्ष्य साक्षि प्रत्ययम् एव स्यात् ॥
In cases where the plaintiff proves himself stupid, or where bad hearing (on the part of witnesses at the time of the transaction) or bad writing is the cause of difficulty, or where the debtor is dead, the evidence of witnesses alone shall be depended on (sákshipratyayameva syát).
english translation
"साक्षि बालिष्येष्व् एव पृथग् अनुयोगे देश काल कार्याणां पूर्व मध्यम उत्तमा दण्डाः" इत्य् औशनसाः ॥
"Only," say the followers of Usanas, "in those cases where witnesses prove themselves to have been stupid or senseless and where the investigation of the place, time or nature of the transaction is of no avail, the three amercements shall be levied."

"कूट साक्षिणो यम् अर्थम् अभूतं कुर्युर् भूतं वा नाशयेयुस् तद् दश गुणं दण्डं दद्युः" इति मानवाः ॥
"False witnesses," say the followers of Manu, "shall be fined ten times the amount which, no matter whether it is true or false, they cause to be lost."
