बालिश्याद् अभियोक्तुर् वा दुह्श्रुतं दुर्लिखितं प्रेत अभिनिवेशं वा समीक्ष्य साक्षि प्रत्ययम् एव स्यात् ॥

In cases where the plaintiff proves himself stupid, or where bad hearing (on the part of witnesses at the time of the transaction) or bad writing is the cause of difficulty, or where the debtor is dead, the evidence of witnesses alone shall be depended on (sákshipratyayameva syát).
