ग्राम अर्थेन ग्रामिकं व्रजन्तम् उपवासाः पर्यायेण अनुगच्छेयुः ॥
(The Head-man of the village.) When the head-man of a village has to travel on account of any business of the whole village, the villagers shall by turns accompany him.
english translation
grAma arthena grAmikaM vrajantam upavAsAH paryAyeNa anugaccheyuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअननुगच्छन्तः पण अर्ध पणिकं योजनं दद्युः ॥
Those who cannot do this shall pay 1½ panas for every yojana.
english translation
ananugacchantaH paNa ardha paNikaM yojanaM dadyuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptग्रामिकस्य ग्रामाद् अस्तेन पारदारिकं निरस्यतश् चतुर् विंशति पणो दण्डः, ग्रामस्य उत्तमः ॥
If the headman of a village sends out of the village any person except a thief, or an adulterer, he shall be punished with a fine of 24 panas, and the villagers with the first amercement (for doing the same).
english translation
grAmikasya grAmAd astena pAradArikaM nirasyataz catur viMzati paNo daNDaH, grAmasya uttamaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिरस्तस्य प्रवेशो ह्य् अभिगमेन व्याख्यातः ॥
Re-entrance into a village for a person previously sent out of it (nirastasya), is explained by „settlement of persons in villages‟ (treated of above).
english translation
nirastasya pravezo hy abhigamena vyAkhyAtaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्तम्भैः समन्ततो ग्रामाद् धनुः शत अपकृष्टम् उपसालं कारयेत् ॥
At a distance of 800 angulas around every village, an enclosure with timber posts shall be constructed.
english translation
stambhaiH samantato grAmAd dhanuH zata apakRSTam upasAlaM kArayet ॥
