न च अभियुक्ते अभियोगे अस्ति ॥
Nor can there be a countercase for the defendant.

अभियोक्ता चेत् प्रत्युक्तस् तद् अहर् एव न प्रतिब्रूयात् परा उक्तः स्यात् ॥
(Adjournments.) The plaintiff shall („rejoin‟) reply soon after the defendant has answered the questions at issue. Else he shall be guilty of parokta.

कृत कार्य विनिश्चयो ह्य् अभियोक्ता न अभियुक्तः ॥
for the plaintiff knows the determining factors of the case. But the defendant does not do so.

तस्य अप्रतिब्रुवतस् त्रि रात्रं सप्त रात्रम् इति ॥
The defendant may be allowed three or seven nights to prepare his defence.

अत ऊर्ध्वं त्रि पण अवर अर्ध्यं द्वादश पण परं दण्डं कुर्यात् ॥
If he is not ready with his defence within that time, he shall be punished with a fine ranging from 3 to 12 panas.
