न च अभियुक्ते अभियोगे अस्ति ॥
Nor can there be a countercase for the defendant.

na ca abhiyukte abhiyoge asti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअभियोक्ता चेत् प्रत्युक्तस् तद् अहर् एव न प्रतिब्रूयात् परा उक्तः स्यात् ॥
(Adjournments.) The plaintiff shall („rejoin‟) reply soon after the defendant has answered the questions at issue. Else he shall be guilty of parokta.

abhiyoktA cet pratyuktas tad ahar eva na pratibrUyAt parA uktaH syAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकृत कार्य विनिश्चयो ह्य् अभियोक्ता न अभियुक्तः ॥
for the plaintiff knows the determining factors of the case. But the defendant does not do so.

kRta kArya vinizcayo hy abhiyoktA na abhiyuktaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य अप्रतिब्रुवतस् त्रि रात्रं सप्त रात्रम् इति ॥
The defendant may be allowed three or seven nights to prepare his defence.

tasya apratibruvatas tri rAtraM sapta rAtram iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअत ऊर्ध्वं त्रि पण अवर अर्ध्यं द्वादश पण परं दण्डं कुर्यात् ॥
If he is not ready with his defence within that time, he shall be punished with a fine ranging from 3 to 12 panas.

ata UrdhvaM tri paNa avara ardhyaM dvAdaza paNa paraM daNDaM kuryAt ॥
