अटव्य् अन्त पाल पुर राष्ट्र मुख्यैश् च प्रतिसंसर्गं गच्छेद् अनुग्रह अर्थम् ॥
He shall take care to secure his treasure (sára) and life from danger. If he cannot reach the intended market, he may sell the merchandise (at any market) free from all dues (sarvadeyavisuddham).
english translation
आपदि सारम् आत्मानं वा मोक्षयेत् ॥
Or he may take his merchandise to other countries through rivers (nadípatha).

आत्मनो वा भूमिं प्राप्तः सर्व देय विशुद्धं व्यवहरेत ॥
Either having obtained land for oneself, one should use everything pure.

वारि पथे वा यान भागक पथ्य् अदन पण्य प्रतिपण्य अर्घ प्रमाण यात्रा काल भय प्रतीकार पण्य पत्तन चारित्राण्य् उपलभेत ॥
He shall also gather information as to conveyance-charges (yánabhágaka), subsistence on the way (pathyadana), value of foreign merchandise that can be obtained in barter for local merchandise, occasions of pilgrimages (yátrakála), means that can be employed to ward off dangers (of the journey), and the history of commercial towns (panyapattanacháritra).

नदी पथे च विज्ञाय व्यवहारं चरित्रतः । यतो लाभस् ततो गच्छेद् अलाभं परिवर्जयेत् ॥
Having gathered information as to the transaction in commercial towns along the banks of rivers, he shall transport his merchandise to profitable markets and avoid unprofitable ones.
