शुल्ब रूपं सुवर्ण पत्त्र संहतं प्रमृष्टं सुपार्श्वम्, तद् एव यमक पत्त्र संहतं प्रमृष्टं ताम्र तार रुपं च उत्तर वर्णकः ॥
A copper piece (sulbarúpya) may be covered over with gold leaf, the surface and the edges being smoothened; similarly a piece of any base metal may be covered over with double leaf of copper or silver, the surface and the edges being smoothened.
english translation
zulba rUpaM suvarNa pattra saMhataM pramRSTaM supArzvam, tad eva yamaka pattra saMhataM pramRSTaM tAmra tAra rupaM ca uttara varNakaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद् उभयं तापनि कषाभ्यां निह्शब्द उल्लेखनाभ्यां वा विद्यात् ॥
The two forms of folding may be detected by heating, by testing on touch-stone (nikasha) or by observing absence of sound when it is rubbed (nissabdollekhana).

tad ubhayaM tApani kaSAbhyAM nihzabda ullekhanAbhyAM vA vidyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअभ्युद्धार्यं बदर आम्ले लवण उदके वा सादयन्ति ॥ इति पेटकः ॥
(They) find out loose folding in the acid juice of badarámla (Flacourtia Cataphracta or jujube fruit) or in salt water;—so much for folding (petaka).

hk transliteration by Sanscriptघने सुषिरे वा रूपे सुवर्ण मृन् मालुका हिङ्गुलुक कल्पो वा तप्तो अवतिष्ठते ॥
In a compact and hollow piece (ghana-sushire rúpe), small particles of gold-like mud (suvarnamrinválukáh) or bit of vermilion (hingulakalkah) are so heated as to make them firmly adhere to the piece inside.

Even in a compact piece (dridhavástuke rúpe), the waxlike mud of Gándhára mixed with the particles of goldlike sand is so heated as to adhere to the piece.
