कालिङ्गकस् तापी पाषाणो वा मुद्ग वर्णो निकषः श्रेष्ठः ॥

A touch-stone with soft and shining splendour is the best. The touch-stone of the Kálinga country with the colour of green beans is also the best.

सम रागी विक्रय क्रय हितः ॥

A touch-stone of even or uniform colour is good in sale or purchase (of gold).

हस्तिच् छविकः सहरितः प्रति रागी विक्रय हितः ॥

That which possesses the colour of an elephant, tinged with green colour and capable of reflecting light (pratirági) is good in selling gold.

स्थिरः परुषो विषम वर्णश् च अप्रतिरागी क्रय हितः ॥

That which is hard, durable, and of uneven colour and not reflecting light, is good for purchasers (krayahitah).
