श्वेतं स्निग्धं मृदु च श्रेष्ठम् ॥
Silver which is white, glossy, and ductile is the best.

zvetaM snigdhaM mRdu ca zreSTham ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविपर्यये स्फोटनं च दुष्टम् ॥
and that which is of the reverse quality is bad.

viparyaye sphoTanaM ca duSTam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत् सीस चतुर् भागेन शोधयेत् ॥
Impure silver shall be heated with lead of one-fourth the quantity of the impurity.

tat sIsa catur bhAgena zodhayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउद्गत चूलिकम् अच्छं भ्राजिष्णु दधि वर्णं च शुद्धम् ॥
That which becomes full of globules, white, glowing, and of the colour of curd is pure.

udgata cUlikam acchaM bhrAjiSNu dadhi varNaM ca zuddham ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशुद्धस्य एको हारिद्रस्य सुवर्णो वर्णकः ॥
When the streak of pure gold (made on touch-stone) is of the colour of turmeric, it is termed suvarna.

zuddhasya eko hAridrasya suvarNo varNakaH ॥
