Sushruta Samhita
एणः कृष्णस्तयोर्ज्ञेयो हरिणस्ताम्र उच्यते । यो न कृष्णो न ताम्रश्च कुरङ्गः सोऽभिधीयते ॥५७॥
Among the types, the black one is known as the antelope, and the reddish one is called the deer. Any animal that is neither black nor reddish and is instead described as a deer is known as such.

इन प्रकारों में, काले रंग का हरिण कहा जाता है और लाल रंग का कुरङ्ग। कोई भी ऐसा प्राणी जो न तो काला हो और न ही लाल हो और जिसे कुरङ्ग के रूप में वर्णित किया जाए, वही अभिधीयते।
