Now we shall discourse on the Nidana of Udara (dropsy with an abnormal condition of the abdomen).

1. Dhanvantari, the foremost among the righteous, equaled the lord of the celestials. 2. He blissfully discoursed on the Nidana of Udara to Sushruta, the auspicious disciple, who approached him humbly.

1. धन्वन्तरि, धर्मभृतां में सर्वोच्च, इन्द्र के समान। 2. उन्होंने उदर के निदान पर सुश्रुत, शुभ शिष्य से विनम्रता से संवाद किया।

1. The Plihodara, Vaddha-Gudodara, and the seventh Agantuka, along with the eighth Dakodara, are classified according to the various Doshas present.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुदुर्बलाग्नेरहिताशनस्य संशुष्कपूत्यन्ननिषेवणाद्वा । स्नेहादिमिथ्याचरणाच्च जन्तोर्वृद्धिं गताः कोष्ठमभिप्रपन्नाः ॥५॥
The increase in the abdomen is observed in individuals with extremely weak digestion, who indulge in the consumption of unwholesome, dry, or putrid food, or who engage in incorrect practices regarding oleaginous substances.

जो व्यक्ति अत्यंत दुर्बलाग्नि वाले होते हैं, जो अशुद्ध, सूखा या सड़का हुआ भोजन करते हैं, या स्नेहादि के संबंध में मिथ्या आचरण करते हैं, उनकी वृद्धि कोष्ठ में देखी जाती है।
