Sushruta Samhita
मशकाः- सामुद्रः, परिमण्डलो, हस्तिमशकः, कृष्णः, पार्वतीय इति पञ्च; तैर्दष्टस्य तीव्रा कण्डूर्दंशशोफश्च, पार्वतीयस्तु कीटैः प्राणहरैस्तुल्यलक्षणः ॥३६॥
Mosquitoes are of five types: Samudra, Parimandala, Hastimashaka, Krishna, and Parvatiya. When bitten by these, the person experiences intense itching and swelling at the bite site. The Parvatiya mosquito, however, exhibits symptoms similar to those caused by life-threatening insects.

मच्छर पाँच प्रकार के होते हैं: समुद्र, परिमंडल, हस्तिमशक, कृष्ण और पर्वतीय। इनके द्वारा काटे जाने पर व्यक्ति को काटने वाली जगह पर तीव्र खुजली और सूजन का अनुभव होता है। हालाँकि, पर्वतीय मच्छर में जानलेवा कीड़ों के समान लक्षण दिखाई देते हैं।
