तास्ताश्च वेदनास्तीव्रा रोगा वै सान्निपातिकाः । क्षाराग्निदग्धवद्दंशो रक्तपीतसितारुणः ॥१८॥
The pain caused by their bites is intense, and the resulting diseases are of a compounded nature. The symptoms resemble those of a wound burnt by alkaline fire, with a reddish, yellow, or dark appearance, along with blood, as in a wound caused by a venomous bite.

इनके काटने से होने वाला दर्द बहुत तीव्र होता है और इसके परिणामस्वरूप होने वाली बीमारियाँ जटिल प्रकृति की होती हैं। इसके लक्षण क्षारीय आग से जले हुए घाव जैसे होते हैं, जिसमें लाल, पीले या गहरे रंग का निशान होता है, साथ ही खून भी निकलता है, जैसा कि किसी विषैले पदार्थ के काटने से होने वाले घाव में होता है।
