तदानीमपि पार्श्ववर्तिनमात्मजमिवानुशोचन्तमभिवीक्षमाणो मृग एवाभिनिवेशितमना विसृज्य लोकमिमं सह मृगेण कलेवरं मृतमनु न मृतजन्मानुस्मृतिरितरवन्मृगशरीरमवाप ।। ५-८-२७ ।।

At the time of death, the King saw that the deer was sitting by his side, exactly like his own son, and was lamenting his death. Actually the mind of the King was absorbed in the body of the deer, and consequently — like those bereft of Kṛṣṇa consciousness — he left the world, the deer, and his material body and acquired the body of a deer. However, there was one advantage. Although he lost his human body and received the body of a deer, he did not forget the incidents of his past life. ।। 5-8-27 ।।

english translation

राजा ने देखा कि उनकी मृत्यु के समय वह मृग उनके पास बैठा था मानो उनका पुत्र हो और वह उनकी मृत्यु से शोकातुर था। वास्तव में राजा का चित्त मृग के शरीर में रमा हुआ था, फलत: कृष्णभावनामृत से रहित मनुष्यों की भाँति उन्होंने यह संसार, मृग तथा अपना भौतिक शरीर त्याग दिया और मृग का शरीर प्राप्त किया। किन्तु इससे एक लाभ हुआ। यद्यपि उन्होंने मानव शरीर त्याग कर मृग का शरीर प्राप्त किया था, किन्तु उन्हें अपने पूर्व जीवन की घटनाएँ भूल नहीं पाईं थीं। ।। ५-८-२७ ।।
