तस्य ह वा इत्थं वर्ष्मणा वरीयसा बृहच्छ्लोकेन चौजसा बलेन श्रिया यशसा वीर्यशौर्याभ्यां च पिता ऋषभ इतीदं नाम चकार ।। ५-४-२ ।।

sanskrit

When the son of Mahārāja Nābhi became visible, He evinced all good qualities described by the great poets — namely, a well-built body with all the symptoms of the Godhead, prowess, strength, beauty, name, fame, influence and enthusiasm. When the father, Mahārāja Nābhi, saw all these qualities, he thought his son to be the best of human beings or the supreme being. Therefore he gave Him the name Ṛṣabha. ।। 5-4-2 ।।

english translation

जब महाराज नाभि का पुत्र प्रकट हुआ, तो उसमें महाकवियों द्वारा वर्णित समस्त उत्तम गुण दिखाई पड़े यथा ईश्वर के लक्षणों से युक्त सुगठित शरीर, शौर्य, बल, सुन्दरता, नाम, यश, प्रभाव तथा उत्साह। जब उसके पिता महाराज नाभि ने इन समस्त गुणों को देखा, तो उसे मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठतम अथवा सर्वश्रेष्ठ व्यक्ति मान कर उसका नाम ऋषभ रख दिया। ।। ५-४-२ ।।
