ऋषिरुवाच अन्तराल एव त्रिजगत्यास्तु दिशि दक्षिणस्यामधस्ताद्भूमेरुपरिष्टाच्च जलाद्यस्यामग्निष्वात्तादयः पितृगणा दिशि स्वानां गोत्राणां परमेण समाधिना सत्या एवाशिष आशासाना निवसन्ति ।। ५-२६-५ ।।

The great sage Śukadeva Gosvāmī answered: All the hellish planets are situated in the intermediate space between the three worlds and the Garbhodaka Ocean. They lie on the southern side of the universe, beneath Bhū-maṇḍala, and slightly above the water of the Garbhodaka Ocean. Pitṛloka is also located in this region between the Garbhodaka Ocean and the lower planetary systems. All the residents of Pitṛloka, headed by Agniṣvāttā, meditate in great samādhi on the Supreme Personality of Godhead and always wish their families well. ।। 5-26-5 ।।

english translation

महर्षि शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने उत्तर दिया—सभी नरकलोक तीनों लोकों तथा गर्भोदक सागर के मध्य में स्थित हैं। वे ब्रह्माण्ड के दक्षिण की ओर भूमण्डल के नीचे तथा गर्भोदक सागर के जल से थोड़ा ऊपर स्थित हैं। पितृलोक भी इसी गर्भोदक सागर तथा अध:लोकों के मध्य के प्रदेश में स्थित है, जिसमें अग्निष्वात्ता आदि समस्त पितृलोक के वासी परम समाधि में लीन होकर भगवान् का ध्यान करते हैं और सदैव अपने गोत्र (परिवारों) की मंगल-कामना करते हैं। ।। ५-२६-५ ।।
