श्रीशुक उवाच तस्य मूलदेशे त्रिंशद्योजनसहस्रान्तर आस्ते या वै कला भगवतस्तामसी समाख्यातानन्त इति सात्वतीया द्रष्टृदृश्ययोः सङ्कर्षणमहमित्यभिमानलक्षणं यं सङ्कर्षणमित्याचक्षते ।। ५-२५-१ ।।

Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said to Mahārāja Parīkṣit: My dear King, approximately 240,000 miles beneath the planet Pātāla lives another incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is the expansion of Lord Viṣṇu known as Lord Ananta or Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa. He is always in the transcendental position, but because He is worshiped by Lord Śiva, the deity of tamo-guṇa or darkness, He is sometimes called tāmasī. Lord Ananta is the predominating Deity of the material mode of ignorance as well as the false ego of all conditioned souls. When a conditioned living being thinks, “I am the enjoyer, and this world is meant to be enjoyed by me,” this conception of life is dictated to him by Saṅkarṣaṇa. Thus the mundane conditioned soul thinks himself the Supreme Lord. ।। 5-25-1 ।।

श्रीशुकदेव गोस्वामी ने महाराज परीक्षित से कहा—हे राजन्, पाताल लोक से २,४०,००० मील नीचे श्रीभगवान् के एक अन्य अवतार निवास करते हैं। वे भगवान् अनन्त अथवा भगवान् संकर्षण कहलाते हैं और भगवान् विष्णु के अंश हैं। वे सदैव दिव्य पद पर आसीन हैं, किन्तु तमोगुणी देवता भगवान् शिव के आराध्य होने के कारण कभी-कभी तामसी कहलाते हैं। भगवान् अनन्त सभी बद्धजीवों के अहं तथा तमोगुण के प्रमुख देवता हैं। जब बद्धजीव यह सोचता है कि यह संसार भोग्य है और मैं उसका भोक्ता हूँ तो यह जीवन-दृष्टि संकर्षण द्वारा प्रेरित होती है। इस प्रकार संसारी बद्धजीव स्वयं को ही परमेश्वर मानने लगता है। ।। ५-२५-१ ।।

यस्येदं क्षितिमण्डलं भगवतोऽनन्तमूर्तेः सहस्रशिरस एकस्मिन्नेव शीर्षणि ध्रियमाणं सिद्धार्थ इव लक्ष्यते ।। ५-२५-२ ।।

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: This great universe, situated on one of Lord Anantadeva’s thousands of hoods, appears just like a white mustard seed. It is infinitesimal compared to the hood of Lord Ananta. ।। 5-25-2 ।।

english translation

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने आगे कहा—भगवान् अनन्त के सहस्र फणों में से एक फण के ऊपर रखा हुआ यह विशाल ब्रह्माण्ड श्वेत सरसों के दाने के समान प्रतीत होता है। भगवान् अनन्त के फण की तुलना में यह नगण्य है। ।। ५-२५-२ ।।

यस्य ह वा इदं कालेनोपसञ्जिहीर्षतोऽमर्षविरचितरुचिरभ्रमद्भ्रुवोरन्तरेण साङ्कर्षणो नाम रुद्र एकादशव्यूहस्त्र्यक्षस्त्रिशिखं शूलमुत्तम्भयन्नुदतिष्ठत् ।। ५-२५-३ ।।

At the time of devastation, when Lord Anantadeva desires to destroy the entire creation, He becomes slightly angry. Then from between His two eyebrows appears three-eyed Rudra, carrying a trident. This Rudra, who is known as Sāṅkarṣaṇa, is the embodiment of the eleven Rudras, or incarnations of Lord Śiva. He appears in order to devastate the entire creation. ।। 5-25-3 ।।

english translation

प्रलयकाल उपस्थित होने पर जब भगवान् अनन्तदेव सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि का संहार करना चाहते हैं, तो वे कुछ क्रुद्ध हो जाते हैं। तब उनकी दोनों भृकुटियों के बीच से त्रिशूल धारण किये हुए त्रिनेत्र रुद्र प्रकट होते हैं। यह रुद्र, जो संकर्षण कहलाते हैं, ग्यारह रुद्रों, अर्थात् भगवान् शिव के अवतारों का व्यूह होता है। वे सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि के संहार हेतु प्रकट होते हैं। ।। ५-२५-३ ।।

यस्याङ्घ्रिकमलयुगलारुणविशदनखमणिषण्डमण्डलेषु अहिपतयः सह सात्वतर्षभैरेकान्तभक्तियोगेनावनमन्तः स्ववदनानि परिस्फुरत्कुण्डलप्रभामण्डितगण्डस्थलान्यतिमनोहराणि प्रमुदितमनसः खलु विलोकयन्ति ।। ५-२५-४ ।।

The pink, transparent toenails on the Lord’s lotus feet are exactly like valuable gems polished to a mirror finish. When the unalloyed devotees and the leaders of the snakes offer their obeisances to Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa with great devotion, they become very joyful upon seeing their own beautiful faces reflected in His toenails. Their cheeks are decorated with glittering earrings, and the beauty of their faces is extremely pleasing to see. ।। 5-25-4 ।।

भगवान् संकर्षण के चरणकमलों के गुलाबी तथा पारदर्शी नाखून मानो दर्पण जैसे चमकाये गये बहुमूल्य मणि हैं। जब शुद्ध भक्त तथा नागों के अधिपति अत्यन्त भक्तिभाव से उन्हें नमस्कार करते हैं, तो उनके चरण-नखों में अपने सुन्दर मुखों की छाया देखकर अत्यन्त प्रमुदित हो उठते हैं। उनके गालों पर कान की देदीप्यमान् बालियाँ दमकती हैं और उनकी मुख-कान्ति अत्यन्त मोहक होती है। ।। ५-२५-४ ।।

yasyAGghrikamalayugalAruNavizadanakhamaNiSaNDamaNDaleSu ahipatayaH saha sAtvatarSabhairekAntabhaktiyogenAvanamantaH svavadanAni parisphuratkuNDalaprabhAmaNDitagaNDasthalAnyatimanoharANi pramuditamanasaH khalu vilokayanti || 5-25-4 ||

यस्यैव हि नागराजकुमार्य आशिष आशासानाश्चार्वङ्गवलयविलसितविशदविपुलधवलसुभगरुचिरभुजरजतस्तम्भेष्वगुरुचन्दनकुङ्कुमपङ्कानुलेपेनावलिम्पमानास्तदभिमर्शनोन्मथितहृदयमकरध्वजावेशरुचिरललितस्मितास्तदनुरागमदमुदितमदविघूर्णितारुणकरुणावलोकनयनवदनारविन्दं सव्रीडं किल विलोकयन्ति ।। ५-२५-५ ।।

Lord Ananta’s arms are attractively long, beautifully decorated with bangles and completely spiritual. They are white, and so they appear like silver columns. When the beautiful princesses of the serpent kings, hoping for the Lord’s auspicious blessing, smear His arms with aguru pulp, sandalwood pulp and kuṅkuma, the touch of His limbs awakens lusty desires within them. Understanding their minds, the Lord looks at the princesses with a merciful smile, and they become bashful, realizing that He knows their desires. Then they smile beautifully and look upon the Lord’s lotus face, which is beautified by reddish eyes rolling slightly from intoxication and delighted by love for His devotees. ।। 5-25-5 ।।

भगवान् अनन्त की आकर्षक दीर्घ भुजाएँ कंगनों से आकर्षक ढंग से अलंकृत हैं और पूर्णतया आध्यात्मिक हैं। श्वेत होने के कारण वे चाँदी के ख भों सी प्रतीत होती हैं। जब भगवान् के शुभाशीर्वाद की इच्छुक नागराजों की कुमारियाँ उनकी बाहों में अगुरु, चन्दन तथा कुमकुम का लेप लगाती हैं, तो उनके स्पर्श से उनके भीतर कामेच्छा जाग्रत हो उठती है। उनके मनोभावों को समझ कर भगवान् जब इन राजकुमारियों को कृपापूर्ण मुस्कान से देखते हैं, तो वे यह सोचकर लजा जाती हैं कि वे उनके मनोभावों को जानते हैं। तब वे मनोहर मुसकान सहित भगवान् के मुखकमल को देखतीं हैं, जो उनके भक्तों के प्यार से प्रमुदित तथा मद-विह्वल घूमती हुई लाल-लाल आँखों से सुशोभित रहता है। ।। ५-२५-५ ।।
