प्लक्षः स्वसमानेनेक्षुरसोदेनावृतो यथा तथा द्वीपोऽपि शाल्मलो द्विगुणविशालःसमानेन सुरोदेनावृतः परिवृङ्क्ते ।। ५-२०-७ ।।

Plakṣadvīpa is surrounded by an ocean of sugarcane juice, equal in breadth to the island itself. Similarly, there is then another island — Sālmalīdvīpa — twice as broad as Plakṣadvīpa [400,000 yojanas, or 3,200,000 miles] and surrounded by an equally broad body of water called Surāsāgara, the ocean that tastes like liquor. ।। 5-20-7 ।।

english translation

प्लक्षद्वीप अपने ही समान चौड़ाई वाले इक्षुरस के समुद्र से घिरा हुआ है। इसी प्रकार उसके आगे उससे दुगुने परिमाण वाला शाल्मलीद्वीप है (४,००,००० योजन अथवा ३२,००,००० मील चौड़ा) जो उतने ही चौड़ाईवाले जल समूह अर्थात् सुरासागर से घिरा हुआ है। ।। ५-२०-७ ।।
