देवतिर्यङ् मनुष्याणां सरीसृपसवीरुधाम् । सर्वजीवनिकायानां सूर्य आत्मा दृगीश्वरः ।। ५-२०-४६ ।।

sanskrit

All living entities, including demigods, human beings, animals, birds, insects, reptiles, creepers and trees, depend upon the heat and light given by the sun-god from the sun planet. Furthermore, it is because of the sun’s presence that all living entities can see, and therefore he is called dṛg-īśvara, the Personality of Godhead presiding over sight. ।। 5-20-46 ।।

english translation

सूर्यलोक से सूर्यदेव द्वारा प्रदान की जा रही उष्मा तथा प्रकाश पर ही समस्त जीवात्माएँ, जिनमें देवता, मनुष्य, पशु, पक्षी, कीट, रेंगनेवाले जीव, लताएँ तथा वृक्ष सम्मिलित हैं, निर्भर हैं। सूर्य की ही उपस्थिति में सभी प्राणी देख सकते हैं, इसीलिए वह दृग्-ईश्वर अर्थात् दृष्टि के ईश्वर कहलाते हैं। ।। ५-२०-४६ ।।
