अन्तर्बहिश्चाखिललोकपालकैरदृष्टरूपो विचरस्युरुस्वनः । स ईश्वरस्त्वं य इदं वशेऽनयन्नाम्ना यथा दारुमयीं नरः स्त्रियम् ।। ५-१८-२६ ।।

My dear Lord, just as a puppeteer controls his dancing dolls and a husband controls his wife, Your Lordship controls all the living entities in the universe, such as the brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas and śūdras. Although You are in everyone’s heart as the supreme witness and commander and are outside everyone as well, the so-called leaders of societies, communities and countries cannot realize You. Only those who hear the vibration of the Vedic mantras can appreciate You. ।। 5-18-26 ।।

english translation

हे ईश्वर, जिस प्रकार एक नटकठ पुतलियों को तथा पति अपनी पत्नी को वश में रखता है, उसी प्रकार आप इस ब्रह्माण्ड की समस्त जीवात्माओं को, चाहे वे ब्राह्मण हों या क्षत्रिय, वैश्य अथवा शूद्र, अपने वश में रखने वाले हैं। यद्यपि आप जन-जन के हृदयों के भीतर परम साक्षी के रूप में और उनके बाहर भी निवास करते हैं, किन्तु समाज, जाति तथा देश के तथाकथित नेता आपको समझ नहीं पाते। केवल वैदिक मंत्रों की स्वरलहरियों को सुनने वाले आपको जान पाते हैं। ।। ५-१८-२६ ।।

यं लोकपालाः किल मत्सरज्वरा हित्वा यतन्तोऽपि पृथक्समेत्य च । पातुं न शेकुर्द्विपदश्चतुष्पदः सरीसृपं स्थाणु यदत्र दृश्यते ।। ५-१८-२७ ।।

My Lord, from the great leaders of the universe, such as Lord Brahmā and other demigods, down to the political leaders of this world, all are envious of Your authority. Without Your help, however, they could neither separately nor concertedly maintain the innumerable living entities within the universe. You are actually the only maintainer of all human beings, of animals like cows and asses, and of plants, reptiles, birds, mountains and whatever else is visible within this material world. ।। 5-18-27 ।।

english translation

हे ईश्वर, इस ब्रह्माण्ड के बड़े से बड़े नेता, यथा ब्रह्मा तथा अन्य देवताओं से लेकर इस संसार के राजनीतिक नेताओं तक, सभी आपकी सत्ता के प्रति ईष्यालु हैं। किन्तु आपकी सहायता के बिना वे न तो पृथक्-पृथक्, न ही सम्मिलित रूप से इस ब्रह्माण्ड के असंख्य जीवों का पालन कर सकते हैं। आप समस्त मनुष्यों, पशुओं (यथा गाय, गधा) तथा समस्त वनस्पतियों, रेंगने वाले जीवों, पक्षियों, पर्वतों तथा इस संसार में जो भी दिखाई पड़ता है उसके एकमात्र वास्तविक पालक हैं। ।। ५-१८-२७ ।।

भवान् युगान्तार्णव ऊर्मिमालिनि क्षोणीमिमामोषधिवीरुधां निधिम् । मया सहोरुक्रमतेज ओजसा तस्मै जगत्प्राणगणात्मने नम इति ।। ५-१८-२८ ।।

O almighty Lord, at the end of the millennium this planet earth, which is the source of all kinds of herbs, drugs and trees, was inundated by water and drowned beneath the devastating waves. At that time, You protected me along with the earth and roamed the sea with great speed. O unborn one, You are the actual maintainer of the entire universal creation, and therefore You are the cause of all living entities. I offer my respectful obeisances unto You. ।। 5-18-28 ।।

english translation

हे सर्वशक्तिमान ईश्वर, कल्पान्त में यह पृथ्वी, जो सभी प्रकार की जड़ी बूटियों तथा वृक्षों की आगार है, जल की बाढ़ से प्रलयकारी तरंगों के नीचे डूब गई। उस समय आपने पृथ्वी सहित मेरी रक्षा की और अत्यन्त वेग से आप समुद्र में भ्रमण करते रहे। हे अजन्मा, आप इस समग्र सृष्टि के वास्तविक पालनकर्ता हैं, इसलिए आप ही सभी जीवात्माओं के कारणस्वरूप हैं। मैं आपको सादर नमस्कार करता हूँ। ।। ५-१८-२८ ।।

हिरण्मयेऽपि भगवान् निवसति कूर्मतनुं बिभ्राणस्तस्य तत्प्रियतमां तनुमर्यमा सह वर्षपुरुषैः पितृगणाधिपतिरुपधावति मन्त्रमिमं चानुजपति ।। ५-१८-२९ ।।

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: In Hiraṇmaya-varṣa, the Supreme Lord, Viṣṇu, lives in the form of a tortoise [kūrma-śarīra]. This most dear and beautiful form is always worshiped there in devotional service by Aryamā, the chief resident of Hiraṇmaya-varṣa, along with the other inhabitants of that land. They chant the following hymns. ।। 5-18-29 ।।

शुकदेव गोस्वामी आगे बोले—हिरण्मयवर्ष में भगवान् विष्णु कच्छप रूप में निवास करते हैं। इस परम प्रिय एवं सुन्दर रूप की आराधना हिरण्मयवर्ष के प्रमुख निवासी अर्यमा तथा उस वर्ष के अन्य वासियों द्वारा सदैव की जाती है। वे निम्नलिखित स्तुति करते हैं। ।। ५-१८-२९ ।।

ओं नमो भगवते अकूपाराय सर्वसत्त्वगुणविशेषणायानुपलक्षितस्थानाय नमो वर्ष्मणे नमो भूम्ने नमो नमोऽवस्थानाय नमस्ते ।। ५-१८-३० ।।

O my Lord, I offer my respectful obeisances unto You, who have assumed the form of a tortoise. You are the reservoir of all transcendental qualities, and being entirely untinged by matter, You are perfectly situated in pure goodness. You move here and there in the water, but no one can discern Your position. Therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto You. Because of Your transcendental position, You are not limited by past, present and future. You are present everywhere as the shelter of all things, and therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto You again and again. ।। 5-18-30 ।।

english translation

हे प्रभो, कच्छप स्वरूप आपको मेरा सादर नमस्कार है। आप समस्त दिव्य गुणों के आगार हैं। आप भौतिकता से पूर्णत: रहित तथा परम सत्त्व में स्थित हैं। आप जल में विचरण करते रहते हैं, किन्तु कोई आपका पता नहीं लगा पाता, अत: मैं आपको सादर नमस्कार करता हूँ। अपनी दिव्य स्थिति के कारण आप भूत, वर्तमान तथा भविष्य से बँधे नहीं रहते। आप सर्वत्र सर्वाधार रूप में उपस्थित रहते हैं, अत: मैं बारम्बार आपको सादर नमस्कार करता हूँ। ।। ५-१८-३० ।।
