केतुमालेऽपि भगवान् कामदेवस्वरूपेण लक्ष्म्याः प्रियचिकीर्षया प्रजापतेर्दुहितॄणां पुत्राणां तद्वर्षपतीनां पुरुषायुषाहोरात्रपरिसङ्ख्यानानां यासां गर्भा महापुरुषमहास्त्रतेजसोद्वेजितमनसां विध्वस्ता व्यसवः संवत्सरान्ते विनिपतन्ति ।। ५-१८-१५ ।।

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: In the tract of land called Ketumāla-varṣa, Lord Viṣṇu lives in the form of Kāmadeva, only for the satisfaction of His devotees. These include Lakṣmījī [the goddess of fortune], the Prajāpati Saṁvatsara and all of Saṁvatsara’s sons and daughters. The daughters of Prajāpati are considered the controlling deities of the nights, and his sons are considered the controllers of the days. The Prajāpati’s offspring number 36,000, one for each day and each night in the lifetime of a human being. At the end of each year, the Prajāpati’s daughters become very agitated upon seeing the extremely effulgent disc of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and thus they all suffer miscarriages. ।। 5-18-15 ।।

english translation

शुकदेव गोस्वामी आगे बोले—केतुमालवर्ष नामक भूभाग में भगवान् विष्णु अपने भक्तों के संतोष के लिए ही कामदेव के रूप में रहते हैं। इन भक्तों में लक्ष्मीजी, प्रजापति संवत्सर तथा संवत्सर के समस्त पुत्र तथा पुत्रियाँ सम्मिलित हैं। प्रजापति की पुत्रियाँ रात के तथा उनके पुत्र दिन के नियामक देवता माने जाते हैं। प्रजापति की सन्तानों की संख्या ३६,००० है जो मनुष्य के जीवन काल के प्रत्येक दिन तथा रात की संख्या के तुल्य है। प्रत्येक वर्ष के अन्त में प्रजापति की पुत्रियाँ श्रीभगवान् के चक्र को देखकर अत्यन्त उद्वेलित हो उठती हैं जिससे उन सबों का गर्भपात हो जाता है। ।। ५-१८-१५ ।।
