ब्राह्मण उवाच अयं जनो नाम चलन् पृथिव्यां यः पार्थिवः पार्थिव कस्य हेतोः । तस्यापि चाङ्घ्र्योरधिगुल्फजङ्घाजानूरुमध्योरशिरोधरांसाः ।। ५-१२-५ ।।

The self-realized brāhmaṇa Jaḍa Bharata said: Among the various material combinations and permutations, there are various forms and earthly transformations. For some reason, these move on the surface of the earth and are called palanquin carriers. Those material transformations which do not move are gross material objects like stones. In any case, the material body is made of earth and stone in the form of feet, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, torso, throat and head. ।। 5-12-5 ।।

english translation

स्वरूपसिद्ध ब्राह्मण जड़ भरत ने कहा—अनेक भौतिक संयोगों में विविध रूप तथा पार्थिव रूपान्तर विद्यमान हैं। कुछ कारणवश ये पृथ्वी पर हिलते-डुलते हैं और पालकीवाहक (कहार) कहलाते हैं। इनमें से वे रूपान्तर जो गति नहीं करते वे पत्थर जैसे स्थूल पदार्थ हैं। प्रत्येक दशा में यह भौतिक देह पाँव, टखना, पिंडली, घुटना, जाँघ, कमर, गर्दन तथा सिर के रूप में मिट्टी तथा पत्थर से बनी हैं। ।। ५-१२-५ ।।
