एकादशासन्मनसो हि वृत्तय आकूतयः पञ्च धियोऽभिमानः । मात्राणि कर्माणि पुरं च तासां वदन्ति हैकादश वीर भूमीः ।। ५-११-९ ।।

There are five working senses and five knowledge-acquiring senses. There is also the false ego. In this way, there are eleven items for the mind’s functions. O hero, the objects of the senses [such as sound and touch], the organic activities [such as evacuation] and the different types of bodies, society, friendship and personality are considered by learned scholars the fields of activity for the functions of the mind. ।। 5-11-9 ।।

english translation

पाँच कर्मेन्द्रियाँ हैं तथा पाँच ज्ञानेन्द्रियाँ। इनके साथ ही अहंकार भी है। इस प्रकार मन की ग्यारह प्रकार की वृत्तियाँ हैं। हे वीर, इन्द्रियों के विषय (यथा शब्द और स्पर्श), कायिक कर्म (यथा मलत्याग) तथा विभिन्न प्रकार के देह, समाज, मैत्री तथा व्यक्तित्व—इन सबको पण्डित लोग मन के कार्य के अन्तर्गत मानते हैं। ।। ५-११-९ ।।

ekAdazAsanmanaso hi vRttaya AkUtayaH paJca dhiyo'bhimAnaH | mAtrANi karmANi puraM ca tAsAM vadanti haikAdaza vIra bhUmIH || 5-11-9 ||
