When he heard the sound, he tried to find the speaker, searching on all sides. But when he was unable to find anyone besides himself, he thought it wise to sit down on his lotus seat firmly and give his attention to the execution of penance, as he was instructed. ।। 2-9-7 ।।

जब उन्होंने वह ध्वनि सुनी तो वे ध्वनिकर्ता को चारों ओर ढूँढऩे का प्रयत्न करने लगे। किन्तु जब वे अपने अतिरिक्त किसी को न पा सके, तो उन्होंने कमल-आसन पर दृढ़तापूर्वक बैठ जाना और आदेशानुसार तपस्या करने में ध्यान देना ही श्रेयस्कर समझा। ।। २-९-७ ।।
