He began to reply to the inquiries of Mahārāja Parīkṣit by saying that the science of the Personality of Godhead was spoken first by the Lord Himself to Brahmā when he was first born. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the supplementary Vedic literature, and it is just in pursuance of the Vedas. ।। 2-8-28 ।।

उन्होंने महाराज परीक्षित के प्रश्नों का उत्तर देना यह कहकर प्रारम्भ किया कि इस तत्त्व ज्ञान को सर्वप्रथम स्वयं भगवान् ने ब्रह्मा से उनके जन्म के समय कहा। श्रीमद्भागवत उपवेद है और वेदों का ही अनुकरण करता है। ।। २-८-२८ ।।
