अन्यथा तेऽव्यक्तगतेर्दर्शनं नः कथं नृणाम् । नितरां म्रियमाणानां संसिद्धस्य वनीयसः ॥ १-१९-३६ ॥
Otherwise [without being inspired by Lord Kṛṣṇa] how is it that you have voluntarily appeared here, though you are moving incognito to the common man and are not visible to us who are on the verge of death? ॥ 1-19-36 ॥

अन्यथा (भगवान् कृष्ण की प्रेरणा के बिना) यह कैसे सम्भव है कि आप स्वेच्छा से यहाँ प्रकट हुए, जबकि आप सामान्य लोगों से ओझल रहकर विचरण करते हैं और हम मरणासन्नों को दृष्टिगोचर नहीं होते। ॥ १-१९-३६ ॥

अतः पृच्छामि संसिद्धिं योगिनां परमं गुरुम् । पुरुषस्येह यत्कार्यं म्रियमाणस्य सर्वथा ॥ १-१९-३७ ॥
You are the spiritual master of great saints and devotees. I am therefore begging you to show the way of perfection for all persons, and especially for one who is about to die. ॥ 1-19-37 ॥
english translation
आप महान् सन्तों तथा भक्तों के गुरु हैं। अतएव मेरी आपसे प्रार्थना है कि आप सारे व्यक्तियों के लिए और विशेष रूप से जो मरणासन्न हैं, उनके लिए पूर्णता का मार्ग दिखलाइये। ॥ १-१९-३७ ॥

यच्छ्रोतव्यमथो जप्यं यत्कर्तव्यं नृभिः प्रभो । स्मर्तव्यं भजनीयं वा ब्रूहि यद्वा विपर्ययम् ॥ १-१९-३८ ॥
Please let me know what a man should hear, chant, remember and worship, and also what he should not do. Please explain all this to me. ॥ 1-19-38 ॥

कृपया मुझे बतायें कि मनुष्य को क्या सुनना, जपना, स्मरण करना तथा पूजना चाहिए और यह भी बतायें कि उसे क्या-क्या नहीं करना चाहिए। कृपा करके मुझे यह सब बतलाइए। ॥ १-१९-३८ ॥

नूनं भगवतो ब्रह्मन् गृहेषु गृहमेधिनाम् । न लक्ष्यते ह्यवस्थानमपि गोदोहनं क्वचित् ॥ १-१९-३९ ॥
O powerful brāhmaṇa, it is said that you hardly stay in the houses of men long enough to milk a cow. ॥ 1-19-39 ॥

हे शक्तिसम्पन्न ब्राह्मण, कहा जाता है कि आप लोगों के घर में मुश्किल से उतनी देर भी नहीं रुकते हैं, जितनी देर में गाय दुही जाती है। ॥ १-१९-३९ ॥

Śrī Sūta Gosvāmī said: The King thus spoke and questioned the sage, using sweet language. Then the great and powerful personality, the son of Vyāsadeva, who knew the principles of religion, began his reply. ॥ 1-19-40 ॥

श्री सूत गोस्वामी ने कहा : इस तरह मीठी भाषा का प्रयोग करते हुए राजा ने बातें कीं तथा प्रश्न किये। तब व्यासदेव के पुत्र जो महान् तथा शक्तिसम्पन्न पुरुष एवं धर्मवेत्ता थे, उन्होंने उत्तर देना प्रारम्भ किया। ॥ १-१९-४० ॥
