जलस्नानं मलत्यागे भस्मस्नानं सदा शुचि । मंत्रस्नानं हरेत्पापं ज्ञानस्नाने परं पदम् ७६ ।
When impurities are evacuated, a bath with water shall be performed; a bath with the ash (bhasma) is always purificatory; a bath with mantras removes sin and if a bath with knowledge is taken, the greatest goal will be reached.
english translation
jalasnAnaM malatyAge bhasmasnAnaM sadA zuci । maMtrasnAnaM haretpApaM jJAnasnAne paraM padam 76 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वतीर्थेषु यत्पुण्यं सर्वतीर्थेषु यत्फलम् । तत्फलं समवाप्नोति भस्मस्नानकरो नरः ७७ ।
A man who takes the bath of ashes derives that benefit which all holy centres accord. He gets the merit thereof.
english translation
sarvatIrtheSu yatpuNyaM sarvatIrtheSu yatphalam । tatphalaM samavApnoti bhasmasnAnakaro naraH 77 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभस्मस्नानं परं तीर्थं गंगास्नानं दिने दिने । भस्मरूपी शिवः साक्षाद्भस्म त्रैलोक्यपावनम् ७८ ।
Bath with the ash is a holy centre where Gaṅgā Snāna is possible every day. Śiva is represented by the ash which directly sanctifies the three worlds.
english translation
bhasmasnAnaM paraM tIrthaM gaMgAsnAnaM dine dine । bhasmarUpI zivaH sAkSAdbhasma trailokyapAvanam 78 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन तदूनं न तद्ध्यानं न तद्दानं जपो न सः । त्रिपुंड्रेण विनायेन विप्रेण यदनुष्ठितम् ७९ ।
Infructuous is the knowledge, meditation, gift and japa if these are performed by a Brāhmaṇa without wearing Tripuṇḍraka.
english translation
na tadUnaM na taddhyAnaM na taddAnaM japo na saH । tripuMDreNa vinAyena vipreNa yadanuSThitam 79 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवानप्रस्थस्य कन्यानां दीक्षाहीननृणां तथा । मध्याह्नात्प्राग्जलैर्युक्तं परतो जलवर्जितम् 1-24-८० ।
A forest-dweller, virgins and men without initiation shall apply the ash pasted in water upto the midday and thereafter without water.
english translation
vAnaprasthasya kanyAnAM dIkSAhInanRNAM tathA । madhyAhnAtprAgjalairyuktaM parato jalavarjitam 1-24-80 ।
