ब्रह्मबुद्ध्या तदैक्यं च सोहं भावनया जपेत् । तानेव ब्रह्मरंध्रादौ कायाद्बाह्ये च भावयेत् ४१ ।

sanskrit

He shall meditate on Vidyeśa, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Īśa, Jīvātman and Parameśvara stationed in the twelve esoteric centre of the body from Mūlādhāra (basic support) to the Brahmarandhra (the mystical aperture at the crown of the head), as identical with Brahman with the conception of Soham (I am He) and continue the Japa. He shall then meditate on them as stationed outside the body as well.

english translation

brahmabuddhyA tadaikyaM ca sohaM bhAvanayA japet | tAneva brahmaraMdhrAdau kAyAdbAhye ca bhAvayet 41 |

hk transliteration

महत्तत्त्वं समारभ्य शरीरं तु सहस्रकम् । एकैकस्माज्जपादेकमतिक्रम्य शनैः शनैः ४२ ।

sanskrit

Starting from the Mahat-tattva (the great principle), one should meditate on the body, which is like a thousand-petaled lotus. Gradually, step by step, one should focus on each part of the body, progressing slowly.

english translation

mahattattvaM samArabhya zarIraM tu sahasrakam | ekaikasmAjjapAdekamatikramya zanaiH zanaiH 42 |

hk transliteration

परस्मिन्योजयेज्जीवं जपतत्त्वमुदाहृतम् । शतद्विदशकं देहं शिखाष्टकसमन्वितम् ४३ ।

sanskrit

This is the principle on which the Japa is based. This Japa for the sake of the extraneous bodies is for two thousand times with the Śikhāṣṭaka.

english translation

parasminyojayejjIvaM japatattvamudAhRtam | zatadvidazakaM dehaM zikhASTakasamanvitam 43 |

hk transliteration

मंत्राणां जप एवं हि जपमादिक्रमाद्विदुः । सहस्रं ब्राह्मदं विद्याच्छतमैंद्र प्रदं विदुः ४४ ।

sanskrit

This is the tradition regarding the Japas. Repetition for a thousand times accords Brahmahood and that for a hundred times accords the region of Indra.

english translation

maMtrANAM japa evaM hi japamAdikramAdviduH | sahasraM brAhmadaM vidyAcchatamaiMdra pradaM viduH 44 |

hk transliteration

इतरत्त्वात्मरक्षार्थं ब्रह्मयोनिषु जायते । दिवाकरमुपस्थाय नित्यमित्थं समाचरेत् ४५ ।

sanskrit

Repetition for less number of times may guard the soul to a certain extent and bring about rebirth in the family of a brahmin. After the worship of the sun, the brahmin shall practise thus every day.

english translation

itarattvAtmarakSArthaM brahmayoniSu jAyate | divAkaramupasthAya nityamitthaM samAcaret 45 |
