चित्रगुप्त उवाच॥ भो भो नृपा दुराचाराः प्रजा विध्वंसकारिणः ॥ अल्पकालस्य राज्यस्य कृते किं दुष्कृतं कृतम् ॥ ६ ॥
Citragupta said:— O ye wicked kings, who had tyrannised over and repressed your subjects, why were misdeeds committed for your rule of a very short duration?
english translation
राज्यभोगेन मोहेन बलादन्यायतः प्रजाः ॥ यद्दण्डिताः फलं तस्य भुज्यतामधुना नृपाः ॥ ७॥
O kings, let the fruits be reaped now (of the evil actions) in having punished your subjects unjusticiably due to your fascination for kingly pleasures. You have misused your might.
english translation
क्व तद्राज्यं कलत्रं च यदर्थमशुभं कृतम् ॥ तत्सर्वं संपरित्यज्य यूयमेकाकिनः स्थिताः ॥ ८॥
Where is that kingdom? Where is your mistress? Where are those for whom sin and evil have been perpetrated? You have left them all and stand here alone.
english translation
पश्यामि तद्बलं नष्टं येन विध्वंसिताः प्रजाः ॥ यमदूतैर्योज्यमाना अधुना कीदृशं भवेत् ॥ ९ ॥
I see that might quelled, the might that suppressed the subjects. How will you fare when you too are subjected to the same treatment by the emissaries of Yama?
english translation
सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ एवं बहुविधैर्वाक्यैरुपलब्धा यमेन ते ॥ स्वानि कर्माणि शोचंति तूष्णीं तिष्ठंति पार्थिवाः ॥ १०॥
Sanatkumāra said:— The kings who are treated with these and other similar taunts by Yama bewail their own lot and stand silent.
