राजोवाच ॥ का सा देवी महामाया या च मोहयतेऽखिलान्॥ कथं जाता च सा देवी कृपया वद मे मुने ॥ ५१ ॥
The king said:— O sage, who is that Goddess? Who is that great Māyā who fascinates all? How was that goddess born? Please tell me.
english translation
rAjovAca ॥ kA sA devI mahAmAyA yA ca mohayate'khilAn॥ kathaM jAtA ca sA devI kRpayA vada me mune ॥ 51 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptऋषिरुवाच ॥ जगत्येकार्णवे जाते शेषमास्तीर्य योगराट् ॥ योगनिद्रामुपाश्रित्य यदा सुष्वाप केशवः ॥ ५२ ॥
The sage said:- When the world was born in one ocean the king of yoga spread out the rest When Lord Kesava fell asleep in yoga sleep.
english translation
RSiruvAca ॥ jagatyekArNave jAte zeSamAstIrya yogarAT ॥ yoganidrAmupAzritya yadA suSvApa kezavaH ॥ 52 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदा द्वावसुरौ जातौ विष्णौ कर्णमलेन वै ॥ मधुकैटभनामानौ विख्यातौ पृथिवीतले ॥ ५३ ॥
Then two asuras, Lord Viṣṇu, were born by the stain of their ears. They were known on earth as Madhu and Kaitabha.
english translation
tadA dvAvasurau jAtau viSNau karNamalena vai ॥ madhukaiTabhanAmAnau vikhyAtau pRthivItale ॥ 53 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रलयार्कप्रभौ घोरौ महाकायौ महाहनू ॥ दंष्द्राकरालवदनौ भक्षयन्तौ जगन्ति वा॥ ५४॥
They were terrible with huge bodies. They had the dazzling brilliance of the sun at the time of dissolution They had huge jaw bones. Their faces were hideous with curved fangs. They seemed to devour all the worlds.
english translation
pralayArkaprabhau ghorau mahAkAyau mahAhanU ॥ daMSdrAkarAlavadanau bhakSayantau jaganti vA॥ 54॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतौ दृष्ट्वा भगवन्नाभिपङ्कजे कमलासनम् ॥ हननायोद्यतावास्तां कस्त्वं भोरिति वादिनौ ॥ ५५॥
On seeing the lotus-seated deity in the umbilical lotus of the lord, the two Asuras shouted “Hey, who are you?” and attempted to kill him.
english translation
tau dRSTvA bhagavannAbhipaGkaje kamalAsanam ॥ hananAyodyatAvAstAM kastvaM bhoriti vAdinau ॥ 55॥
