किमत्र कारणं ब्रूहि ज्ञानिनोरपि नो मनः ।। मोहेन व्याकुलं जातं महत्येषां हि मूर्खता ।। ४६ ।।

sanskrit

Sivapurāṇa What is the reason hereof? Please say. Wise though we are, our minds are afflicted and agitated by delusion. This is great foolishness.

english translation

kimatra kAraNaM brUhi jJAninorapi no manaH || mohena vyAkulaM jAtaM mahatyeSAM hi mUrkhatA || 46 ||

ऋषि उवाच ।। महामाया जगद्धात्री शक्तिरूपा सनातनी ।। सा मोहयति सर्वेषां समाकृष्य मनांसि वै।। ४७।।

sanskrit

The sage said:— The great Māyā in the form of the eternal Śakti is the material cause of the universe. It is this that drags the minds of all and makes them deluded.

english translation

RSi uvAca || mahAmAyA jagaddhAtrI zaktirUpA sanAtanI || sA mohayati sarveSAM samAkRSya manAMsi vai|| 47||

ब्रह्मादयस्सुरास्सर्वे यन्मायामोहिताः प्रभो ।। न जानन्ति परन्तत्त्वं मनुष्याणां च का कथा ।। ४८ ।।

sanskrit

O lord, Brahmā and other gods deluded by this Māyā do not realise the truth. What then is the story of men?

english translation

brahmAdayassurAssarve yanmAyAmohitAH prabho || na jAnanti parantattvaM manuSyANAM ca kA kathA || 48 ||

सा सृजत्यखिलं विश्वं सैव पालयतीति च ।। सैव संहरते काले त्रिगुणा परमेश्वरी ।। ४९।।

sanskrit

That alone, Parameśvarī of three attributes, creates the universe; she alone sustains it and she alone destroys it at the proper time.

english translation

sA sRjatyakhilaM vizvaM saiva pAlayatIti ca || saiva saMharate kAle triguNA paramezvarI || 49||

यस्योपरि प्रसन्ना सा वरदा कामरूपिणी।। स एव मोहमत्येति नान्यथा नृपसत्तम ।। ५०।।

sanskrit

O excellent king, only he surmounts this delusion on whom the favourite goddess who assumes forms as she pleases becomes delighted.

english translation

yasyopari prasannA sA varadA kAmarUpiNI|| sa eva mohamatyeti nAnyathA nRpasattama || 50||
