अहो प्रतिज्ञा दुर्लंघ्या साधूनामीशवर्तिनाम् ।। सर्वेषां जगतां मध्ये किमीशस्य पुनर्गिरे ।। ५६ ।।

Oh! even the promise of ordinary good men acting under the guidance of Śiva cannot be transgressed in all the worlds. O mountain, what then about that of Śiva Himslf.

english translation

aho pratijJA durlaMghyA sAdhUnAmIzavartinAm || sarveSAM jagatAM madhye kimIzasya punargire || 56 ||

एको महेन्द्रश्शैलानां पक्षांश्चिच्छेद लीलया ।। पार्वती लीलया मेरोश्शृङ्गभङ्गं चकार च ।।५७।

Working singlehanded, Lord Indra chopped off the wings of mountains as though at play. Pārvatī too sportively broke the peak of Meru.

eko mahendrazzailAnAM pakSAMzciccheda lIlayA || pArvatI lIlayA merozzRGgabhaGgaM cakAra ca ||57|

एकार्थे नहि शैलेश नाश्यास्सर्वा हि सम्पदः ।। एकं त्यजेत्कुलस्यार्थे श्रुतिरेषा सनातनी ।।५८।।

All riches can be sacrificed, O lord of mountains, for the sake of a single entity, but the eternal Śruti has it that one should forsake a single entity for the sake of a unit.

english translation

ekArthe nahi zaileza nAzyAssarvA hi sampadaH || ekaM tyajetkulasyArthe zrutireSA sanAtanI ||58||

दत्त्वा विप्राय स्वसुतामनरण्यो नृपेश्वर ।। ब्राह्मणाद्भयमापन्नो ररक्ष निजसम्पदम् ।। ५९ ।।

When danger was imminent at the hands of a brahmin, the chief of kings, Anaraṇya, saved his entire asset by giving his daughter to him.

dattvA viprAya svasutAmanaraNyo nRpezvara || brAhmaNAdbhayamApanno rarakSa nijasampadam || 59 ||

तमाशु बोधयामासुर्नीतिशास्त्रविदो जनाः ।। ब्रह्मशापाद्विभीताश्च गुरवो ज्ञातिसत्तमाः ।।2.3.33.६०।।

When he was threatened by the curse of brahmin his preceptors, wise kinsmen and people well-versed in the science of polity advised him hastily.

tamAzu bodhayAmAsurnItizAstravido janAH || brahmazApAdvibhItAzca guravo jJAtisattamAH ||2.3.33.60||
