सागर उवाच ।। किमर्थमागतोऽसि त्वं ब्रह्मन्नत्राखिलाधिप ।। तन्निदेशय सुप्रीत्या मत्वा मां च स्वसेवकम् ।। ११ ।।

sanskrit

The ocean said: O Brahmā, the lord of all, why have you come here? Please command me with pleasure knowing me to be your servant.

english translation

sAgara uvAca || kimarthamAgato'si tvaM brahmannatrAkhilAdhipa || tannidezaya suprItyA matvA mAM ca svasevakam || 11 ||

अथाहं सागरवचश्श्रुत्वा प्रीतिपुरस्सरम् ।। प्रावोचं शंकरं स्मृत्वा लौकिकं हितमावहन् ।। १२ ।।

sanskrit

On hearing the words of the ocean I remembered Śiva. I spoke with love in order to benefit the world.

english translation

athAhaM sAgaravacazzrutvA prItipurassaram || prAvocaM zaMkaraM smRtvA laukikaM hitamAvahan || 12 ||

ब्रह्मोवाच ।। शृणु तात महाधीमन्सर्वलोकहितावह ।। वच्म्यहं प्रीतितस्सिंधो शिवेच्छाप्रेरितो हृदा ।। १३ ।।

sanskrit

Brahmā said: O dear, intelligent one, causing the welfare of all the worlds, O ocean, induced by Śiva’s will, I shall explain to you.

english translation

brahmovAca || zRNu tAta mahAdhImansarvalokahitAvaha || vacmyahaM prItitassiMdho zivecchAprerito hRdA || 13 ||

अयं क्रोधो महेशस्य वाडवात्मा महाप्रभुः ।। दग्ध्वा कामं द्रुतं सर्वं दग्धुकामोऽभवत्ततः ।।१४।।

sanskrit

This is the fire of fury of lord Śiva, the great lord. It is in the form of a mare now. After burning Kāma it was about to burn everything.

english translation

ayaM krodho mahezasya vADavAtmA mahAprabhuH || dagdhvA kAmaM drutaM sarvaM dagdhukAmo'bhavattataH ||14||

प्रार्थितोऽहं सुरैश्शीघ्रं पीडितैश्शंकरेच्छया ।। तत्रागत्य द्रुतं तं वै तात स्तंभितवाञ्शुचिम् ।।१५।।

sanskrit

At the will of Śiva I was requested by the gods who were harassed by it, and so I went there and suppressed the fire.

english translation

prArthito'haM suraizzIghraM pIDitaizzaMkarecchayA || tatrAgatya drutaM taM vai tAta staMbhitavAJzucim ||15||
