ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इत्थं देवैः स्तुता देवी दुर्गा दुर्गार्तिनाशिनी ॥ आविर्बभूव देवानां पुरतो जगदंबिका ॥ १ ॥

sanskrit

Brahmā said: Thus eulogised by the Gods, the Goddess Durgā, the mother of the universe, the destroyer of impassable distress, appeared in front of them.

english translation

brahmovAca ॥ itthaM devaiH stutA devI durgA durgArtinAzinI ॥ AvirbabhUva devAnAM purato jagadaMbikA ॥ 1 ॥
