नारद उवाच ॥ विधे प्राज्ञ वदेदानीं मेनोत्पत्तिं समादरात् ॥ अपि शापं समाचक्ष्व कुरु संदेहभंजनम् ॥१॥
Nārada said: O Brahmā, the intelligent one, please now tell me reverently about the origin of Menā as well as the imprecation. Please clear my doubts.
english translation
nArada uvAca ॥ vidhe prAjJa vadedAnIM menotpattiM samAdarAt ॥ api zApaM samAcakSva kuru saMdehabhaMjanam ॥1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptब्रह्मोवाच ॥ शृणु नारद सुप्रीत्या मेनोत्पत्तिं विवेकतः ॥ मुनिभिः सह वक्ष्येहं सुतवर्य्य महाबुध ॥२॥
Brahmā said: O Nārada and the sages, listen to the narrative of the origin of Menā. O excellent son, O great scholar, I shall mention it now.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ zRNu nArada suprItyA menotpattiM vivekataH ॥ munibhiH saha vakSyehaM sutavaryya mahAbudha ॥2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदक्षनामा मम सुतो यः पुरा कथितो मुने ॥ तस्य जाताः सुताः षष्टिप्रमितास्सृष्टिकारणाः ॥३॥
O sage, I have already told you about my son Dakṣa. He had sixty daughters all of whom were the instruments of creation.
english translation
dakSanAmA mama suto yaH purA kathito mune ॥ tasya jAtAH sutAH SaSTipramitAssRSTikAraNAH ॥3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतासां विवाहमकरोत्स वरैः कश्यपादिभिः ॥ विदितं ते समस्तं तत्प्रस्तुतं शृणु नारद ॥ ४ ॥
He celebrated their marriages with Kaśyapa and other bridegrooms. You know all that already. O Nārada, now, listen to the present story.
english translation
tAsAM vivAhamakarotsa varaiH kazyapAdibhiH ॥ viditaM te samastaM tatprastutaM zRNu nArada ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतासां मध्ये स्वधानाम्नीं पितृभ्यो दत्तवान्सुताम् ॥ तिस्रोभवन्सुतास्तस्यास्सुभगा धर्ममूर्तयः ॥ ५ ॥
Among those, the daughter Svadhā was given to the forefathers. She had three daughters all of whom were of handsome features and virtuous forms.

tAsAM madhye svadhAnAmnIM pitRbhyo dattavAnsutAm ॥ tisrobhavansutAstasyAssubhagA dharmamUrtayaH ॥ 5 ॥
