॥ ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ श्रीब्रह्मेशप्रजेशेन सदैव मुनिना च वै॥ अनुनीतश्शंभुरासीत्प्रसन्नः परमेश्वरः ॥१॥
Brahmā said: Lord Śiva was delighted on being conciliated and cajolled by Viṣṇu, Brahmā and the sages.
english translation
आश्वास्य देवान् विष्ण्वादीन्विहस्य करुणानिधिः। उवाच परमेशानः कुर्वन् परमनुग्रहम् ॥२॥
Consoling Viṣṇu and other devas and laughing, the merciful lord Śiva blessed them and spoke.

श्रीमहादेव उवाच ॥ शृणुतं सावधानेन मम वाक्यं सुरोत्तमौ ॥ यथार्थं वच्मि वां तात वां क्रोधं सर्वदासहम् ॥ ३ ॥
Lord Śiva said: O excellent devas, both of you listen with attention. O dear ones, I shall state the truth. I have always borne your wrath.

नाघं तनौ तु बालानां वर्णमेवानुचिंतये ॥ मम मायाभिभूतानां दंडस्तत्र धृतो मया ॥ ४ ॥
I do not take into account the sin committed by my children. I have inflicted punishment on those who are afflicted by my illusion.

दक्षस्य यज्ञभंगोयं न कृतश्च मया क्वचित् ॥ परं द्वेष्टि परेषां यदात्मनस्तद्भविष्यति ॥५॥
The destruction of the sacrifice of Dakṣa was not done by me. If a person hates another, ultimately it recoils on him alone.
