प्रकृतेश्च महानासीन्महतश्च गुणास्त्रयः ॥ अहंकारस्ततो जातस्त्रिविधो गुणभेदतः ॥ ५६ ॥
From Prakṛti came into being the Mahat (cosmic Intellect), from Mahat the three Guṇas. Ahaṃkāra (the cosmic ego) arose therefrom in three forms according to the three Guṇas.
