ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ एतस्मिन्नन्तरे तत्र नभोवाणी मुनीश्वर ॥ अवोचच्छृण्वतां दक्षसुरादीनां यथार्थतः ॥ १ ॥
Brahmā said: O excellent sage, in the meantime a celestial voice arose, even as Dakṣa, the devas and others were listening.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ etasminnantare tatra nabhovANI munIzvara ॥ avocacchRNvatAM dakSasurAdInAM yathArthataH ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptव्योमवाण्युवाच ॥ रे रे दक्ष दुराचार दंभाचारपरायण ॥ किं कृतं ते महामूढ कर्म चानर्थकारकम् ॥२॥
The celestial Voice said: O Dakṣa, of evil conduct, of haughty disposition, what is it that you have foolishly done now, this misdeed bringing in many an unhappy calamity in its wake?
english translation
vyomavANyuvAca ॥ re re dakSa durAcAra daMbhAcAraparAyaNa ॥ kiM kRtaM te mahAmUDha karma cAnarthakArakam ॥2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन कृतं शैवराजस्य दधीचेर्वचनस्य हि ॥ प्रमाणं तत्कृते मूढ सर्वानंदकरं शुभम् ॥ ३ ॥
You never gave any credence to the words of Dadhīci, the king of devotees of Śiva. O fool, if it had been carried out, everything would have been auspicious and pleasing.
english translation
na kRtaM zaivarAjasya dadhIcervacanasya hi ॥ pramANaM tatkRte mUDha sarvAnaMdakaraM zubham ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिर्गतस्ते मखाद्विप्रः शापं दत्त्वा सुदुस्सहम् ॥ ततोपि बुद्धं किंचिन्नो त्वया मूढेन चेतसि ॥४॥
After cursing you terribly, the brahmin had walked out of the sacrificial hall in protest. Still you did not understand anything, fool that you were.
english translation
nirgataste makhAdvipraH zApaM dattvA sudussaham ॥ tatopi buddhaM kiMcinno tvayA mUDhena cetasi ॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः कृतः कथं नो वै स्वपुत्र्यास्त्वादरः परः ॥ समागतायास्सत्याश्च मंगलाया गृहं स्वतः ॥५॥
How is it that you did not honour Satī your daughter, the auspicious lady who herself came to your house?
english translation
tataH kRtaH kathaM no vai svaputryAstvAdaraH paraH ॥ samAgatAyAssatyAzca maMgalAyA gRhaM svataH ॥5॥
