भक्तौ ज्ञाने न भेदो हि तत्कर्तुस्सर्वदा सुखम् ।। विज्ञानं न भवत्येव सति भक्तिविरोधिनः ।। १६ ।।

sanskrit

There is no difference between devotion and perfect knowledge. A person who is engrossed in devotion enjoys perpetual happiness. Perfect knowledge never descends in a vicious person averse to devotion.

english translation

bhaktau jJAne na bhedo hi tatkartussarvadA sukham || vijJAnaM na bhavatyeva sati bhaktivirodhinaH || 16 ||

hk transliteration

भक्त्या हीनस्सदाहं वै तत्प्रभावाद्गृहेष्वपि ।। नीचानां जातिहीनानां यामि देवि न संशयः ।। १७ ।।

sanskrit

Attracted by devotion and as a result of its influence, O Goddess, I go even to the houses of the base-born and outcastes. There is no doubt about it.

english translation

bhaktyA hInassadAhaM vai tatprabhAvAdgRheSvapi || nIcAnAM jAtihInAnAM yAmi devi na saMzayaH || 17 ||

hk transliteration

सा भक्तिर्द्विविधा देवि सगुणा निर्गुणा मता ।। वैधी स्वाभाविकी या या वरा सा त्ववरा स्मृता ।। १८ ।।

sanskrit

O Goddess, devotion is considered to be of two types: one is with qualities (Saguna) and the other without qualities (Nirguna). The devotion that is prescribed (Vaidhi) and the natural (Swabhaviki) devotion are both remembered, but your devotion is regarded as superior.

english translation

sA bhaktirdvividhA devi saguNA nirguNA matA || vaidhI svAbhAvikI yA yA varA sA tvavarA smRtA || 18 ||

hk transliteration

नैष्ठिक्या नैष्ठिकी भेदाद्द्विविधे द्विविधे हि ते ।। षड्विधा नैष्ठिकी ज्ञेया द्वितीयैकविधा स्मृता ।। १९ ।।

sanskrit

O Goddess, the devotion (Naisthiki Bhakti) is of two types: the primary and secondary divisions. There are six types of Naisthiki devotion, and the second one is considered the primary type.

english translation

naiSThikyA naiSThikI bhedAddvividhe dvividhe hi te || SaDvidhA naiSThikI jJeyA dvitIyaikavidhA smRtA || 19 ||

hk transliteration

विहिताविहिताभेदात्तामनेकां विदुर्बुधाः ।। तयोर्बहुविधत्वाच्च तत्त्वं त्वन्यत्र वर्णितम् ।। 2.2.23.२० ।।

sanskrit

Scholars further classify it into enjoined and non-enjoined. Thus devotions are manifold which have been explained elsewhere.
