ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इत्युक्त्वा सर्वदेवैश्च कृता शंभोर्नुतिः परा ॥ शिवाच्च सा वरं प्राप्ता शृणु ह्यादरतो मुने ॥ १ ॥
Brahmā said: O sage, thus I have told you about the prayer to Śiva offered by all the devas. How Satī obtained a boon from Śiva, you shall now listen with respect.
english translation
अथो सती पुनः शुक्लपक्षेऽष्टम्यामुपोषिता ॥ आश्विने मासि सर्वेशं पूजयामास भक्तितः ॥२॥
Then, in the month of Āśvina (September-October), Satī observed a fast on the eighth day of the bright half and worshipped Śiva with great devotion.
english translation
इति नंदाव्रते पूर्णे नवम्यां दिनभागतः ॥ तस्यास्तु ध्यानमग्नायाः प्रत्यक्षमभवद्धरः ॥ ३ ॥
When her Nandā rites were concluded on the ninth day (Navamī), while she was engrossed in meditation, Śiva became visible to her.
english translation
सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरो गौरः पंचवक्त्रस्त्रिलोचनः॥ चंद्रभालः प्रसन्नात्मा शितिकंठश्चतुर्भुज ॥ ४ ॥
He was fair-complexioned, handsome in appearance, had five faces[1] and three eyes[2]. The crescent moon adorned His forehead. He was in a joyous mood.

त्रिशूलब्रह्मकवराभयधृग्भस्मभास्वरः ॥ स्वर्धुन्या विलसच्छीर्षस्सकलाङ्गमनोहरः ॥ ५ ॥
He had four arms and His neck was blue[3] in colour. He was holding trident and an amulet (Brahmakavaca) for protection. He was brilliant with dust. His head was comely with the celestial river Gaṅgā. He was gay in all parts of his body.
