यद्यद्वृतं त्वया भद्रे दत्तं तदखिलं मया।। सुप्रसन्नेन तपसा तव संध्ये वरेण हि ।। ४१ ।।

sanskrit

O gentle lady Sandhyā, whatever you have asked I grant you entirely. I am delighted by this excellent penance of yours.

english translation

yadyadvRtaM tvayA bhadre dattaM tadakhilaM mayA|| suprasannena tapasA tava saMdhye vareNa hi || 41 ||

प्रथमं शैशवो भावः कौमाराख्यो द्वितीयकः ।। तृतीयो यौवनो भावश्चतुर्थो वार्द्धकस्तथा ।।४२।।

sanskrit

(In all living beings) the first stage shall be infancy, the second childhood, the third youth and the fourth stage shall be old age.

english translation

prathamaM zaizavo bhAvaH kaumArAkhyo dvitIyakaH || tRtIyo yauvano bhAvazcaturtho vArddhakastathA ||42||

तृतीये त्वथ संप्राप्ते वयोभागे शरीरिणः।। सकामास्स्युर्द्वितीयांतो भविष्यति क्वचित् क्वचित् ।। ४३ ।।

sanskrit

When the third stage in life is reached, the living beings shall become lustful. In some cases it shall be at the end of the second stage.

english translation

tRtIye tvatha saMprApte vayobhAge zarIriNaH|| sakAmAssyurdvitIyAMto bhaviSyati kvacit kvacit || 43 ||

तपसा तव मर्यादा जगति स्थापिता मया ।। उत्पन्नमात्रा न यथा सकामास्स्युश्शरीरिणः ।।४४।।

sanskrit

This new limitation is imposed by me as a result of your penance. No living being shall be lustful at the time of its nativity.

tapasA tava maryAdA jagati sthApitA mayA || utpannamAtrA na yathA sakAmAssyuzzarIriNaH ||44||

त्वं च लोके सतीभावं तादृशं समवाप्नुहि ।। त्रिषु लोकेषु नान्यस्या यादृशं संभविष्यति ।। ४५ ।।

sanskrit

You will attain such a pure chastity as will not be attained by any other woman in the three worlds.

tvaM ca loke satIbhAvaM tAdRzaM samavApnuhi || triSu lokeSu nAnyasyA yAdRzaM saMbhaviSyati || 45 ||
