व्यास उवाच ।। नारायणश्च भगवान् वीर्याधानं चकार ह ।। तुलस्याः केन यत्नेन योनौ तद्वक्तुमर्हसि ।। १ ।।

Vyāsa said: How did the lord Nārāyaṇa manage to deposit his semen in the vaginal passage of Tulasī? Please narrate the same.

vyAsa uvAca || nArAyaNazca bhagavAn vIryAdhAnaM cakAra ha || tulasyAH kena yatnena yonau tadvaktumarhasi || 1 ||

सनत्कुमार उवाच ।। नारायणो हि देवानां कार्यकर्ता सतां गतिः ।। शंखचूडस्य रूपेण रेमे तद्रमया सह ।।२।।

Sanatkumāra said: Nārāyaṇa is the person who carries on the task of the gods. He is the goal of the good. It was in the guise of Śaṅkhacūḍa that he indulged in sexual dalliance with his wife.

sanatkumAra uvAca || nArAyaNo hi devAnAM kAryakartA satAM gatiH || zaMkhacUDasya rUpeNa reme tadramayA saha ||2||

तदेव शृणु विष्णोश्च चरितं प्रमुदावहम्।। शिवशासनकर्तुश्च मातुश्च जगतां हरेः।।३।।

Listen to the story of Viṣṇu that causes delight, the story of Viṣṇu who acts at the behest of Śiva and Pārvatī, the mother of the worlds.

tadeva zRNu viSNozca caritaM pramudAvaham|| zivazAsanakartuzca mAtuzca jagatAM hareH||3||

रणमध्ये व्योमवचः श्रुत्वा देवेन शंभुना।। प्रेरितश्शंखचूडस्य गृहीत्वा कवचं परम्।।४।।

On hearing the aerial voice in the course of the war and urged by lord Śiva, Viṣṇu carried off the excellent armour of Śaṅkhacūḍa assuming the guise of a brahmin, rapidly, by having recourse to his Māyā.

raNamadhye vyomavacaH zrutvA devena zaMbhunA|| preritazzaMkhacUDasya gRhItvA kavacaM param||4||

विप्ररूपेण त्वरितं मायया निजया हरिः।। जगाम शंखचूडस्य रूपेण तुलसीगृहम् ।।५।।

Hari (Lord Vishnu), swiftly assuming the form of a Brāhmaṇa through his own Māyā (divine illusion), went to the house of Tulasī, taking on the appearance of Śaṅkhachūḍa.

viprarUpeNa tvaritaM mAyayA nijayA hariH|| jagAma zaMkhacUDasya rUpeNa tulasIgRham ||5||
