स्कंदस्य समरं दृष्ट्वा महारौद्रं तमद्भुतम् ॥ दानवानां क्षयकरं यथाप्रकृतिकल्पकम् ॥१६॥
On seeing the wonderfully terrible fight of Kārttikeya that caused wastage in the rank and file of the Dānavas like natural disasters, as well as the harassment and havoc wrought by Mahāmāri, Śaṅkhacūḍa became furious and himself got ready for the battle.
english translation
महामारीकृतं तच्चोपद्रवं क्षयहेतुकम्॥ चुकोपातीव सहसा सनद्धोभूत्स्वयं तदा ॥ १७॥
That calamity, turned into a great epidemic, causing destruction and decay. He suddenly became intensely angry and immediately armed himself.

वरं विमानमारुह्य नानाशस्त्रास्त्रसंयुतम्॥ अभयं सर्ववीराणां नानारत्नपरिच्छदम्॥१८॥
He got into his excellent aerial chariot that contained different weapons and missiles, that was set in diamond and that encouraged and emboldened the heroes.

महावीरैश्शंखचूडो जगाम रथमध्यतः ॥ धनुर्विकृष्य कर्णान्तं चकार शरवर्षणम् ॥१९॥
Śaṅkhacūḍa drew the string of the bow upto his ear and discharged volleys of arrows from his seat in the middle of the chariot. He was accompanied by many heroes.

तस्य सा शरवृष्टिश्च दुर्निवार्य्या भयंकरी ॥ महाघोरांधकारश्च वधस्थाने बभूव ह ॥2-5-37-२०॥
His volley of arrows was terrifying. It could not be withstood. A terrible darkness spread in the battlefield.
